Cleaning the air conditioner home

Modern climate technology has long ceased to be a luxury item, and therefore air conditioning can be found in almost every home. However, it should be remembered that the main components of such equipment, for example, an evaporator, fan, radiator, require regular maintenance. For this, it is not necessary to call specialists, because cleaning the home air conditioner can be done independently if you follow the basic rules. Which ones - we will describe in this article.

How often should I clean?

Each climate device is supplied by the manufacturer along with technical documentation, which necessarily indicates the recommended frequency of cleaning. Typically, the frequency of these procedures depends on the overall degree of pollution in the room, but should be carried out at least 1-2 times a year.

Important! It is worth remembering that various structural elements need to be serviced after a certain period of time. So, most often you should clean the air grids that collect the main dust on their surface.

There are a number of signs that indicate that you need to clean your home air conditioner:

  1. Increase the noise of the split system during operation.
  2. The appearance of unusual sounds - gurgling or squelching.
  3. Water began to drip from the indoor unit of the system.
  4. After turning on the air conditioner, an unpleasant odor appears in the room.

The appearance of at least one of these symptoms suggests that the air conditioner does not fully perform its functions, and therefore needs a comprehensive cleaning, which can be done both on its own and with the help of qualified specialists.

Before you clean the air conditioner at home yourself, you need to understand the design features of this device.

Cleaning the air conditioner indoor unit

The indoor unit of the split system is located directly in the room and consists of the following components:

  • Filters
  • radiator;
  • fan;
  • heat exchanger - evaporator;
  • drainage system - canal and bath.

Each of these systems needs periodic maintenance and cleaning of pets, dust, debris and wool.

Air Filter Service

The most frequent cleaning is required by filters of the household air conditioner, which are represented by dust nets. It is they that prevent the ingress of dust particles and small debris to the rest of the system components. To carry out their maintenance is quite easy, therefore, any user will be able to cope with this task.

Important! You can find air filters immediately under the top cover of the indoor unit. Externally, these structural elements are represented by a fine mesh with plastic partitions. Depending on the features of the model, one to three filters can be in the block.

The procedure for cleaning these components is carried out according to the following algorithm:

  1. Disconnect the air conditioner from the power supply.
  2. Lift the cover of the indoor unit and lock it in the upper position.
  3. Remove the air filters.
  4. Clean the mesh surface of the part with a vacuum cleaner or brush.
  5. Rinse the filter under running cold water.
  6. Dry the strainer and reinstall.

Important! Depending on the features of the air conditioner model you are using, the filters can be either flat or curved. However, this does not affect the cleaning method.

Drain system cleaning

The air conditioning drainage system consists of two main components:

  1. A tray is a bath that serves to collect fluid from a heat exchanger.
  2. A drainage tube is a channel that serves to remove the produced fluid from the room.

Cleaning the drainage system at home is carried out according to the following instructions:

  1. Remove the pallet by first removing the plastic casing of the indoor unit and disconnecting the mounting connector.
  2. Clean the drain pipe by blowing it with air pressure from a vacuum cleaner or compressor.
  3. Rinse the bath thoroughly under running water.

Important! You can check the correct cleaning of the drainage system by pouring 1.5 liters of clean water into it. If no leaks are found, then cleaning the home air conditioner is done quite thoroughly.

Fan

Cleaning the fan of the climate control system at home is carried out according to the following algorithm of actions:

  1. After removing the strainer from the air conditioner, blow the fan with a vacuum cleaner that works by blowing.
  2. Blade the parts with a soapy solution that is applied to their surface with a long-bristle brush.

Important! To thoroughly treat all surfaces, turn the fan by hand.

  1. After 5 minutes, turn on the air conditioner by placing a film under the diffuser, on which all the contaminants in the system will blow.

Important! The fan blades can be further treated with a special antibacterial agent. The modern market for household products offers a wide variety of cleaning products that are specially designed for serving household split systems.

Cleaning the radiator and heat exchanger

At home, you can only conduct surface cleaning of the radiator and heat exchanger, which does not involve their removal and disconnection from the main structure. This procedure is performed according to the following instructions:

  1. Remove the top cover of the air conditioner.
  2. Unscrew the air filters and the front of the equipment.
  3. With a long-bristled brush, clean the radiator and evaporative equipment.

Important! Handle the device exclusively from top to bottom, otherwise thin and brittle plates of the heat exchanger may be damaged.

  1. Pour 0.5 liter antiseptic into the nebulizer.
  2. Turn on the air conditioner in recirculation mode with the lowest possible temperatures.
  3. Spray the antiseptic at a small distance from the radiator, near the air intake zone with a split system.

Important! If you notice a dirt film on the surface of the heat exchanger, you can clean it using steam cleaner. First remove a layer of dry dust with a brush, and treat the parts of the device after cleaning with an antiseptic.

Cleaning the outdoor unit

The external unit of the climate control system also needs to be cleaned periodically, however, the contaminants here do not contain fat deposits, and therefore are removed much faster and easier. The outdoor unit must be cleaned according to the following instructions:

  1. Disconnect the appliance from the mains.
  2. Remove the protective cover of the outdoor unit.
  3. Remove large debris with a vacuum cleaner or brush.
  4. Wash the fan blades with any soapy solution.
  5. Flush the radiator with a hose or steam generator.

Important! When washing the outdoor unit of the split system, make sure that water does not get into the electrical components of the equipment.

In this article, we talked about how to properly and safely clean the air conditioner at home. We sincerely hope that in the future the equipment will please you with good and long work.
