Decoupage vases using napkins

It would seem, how you can make an original gift out of an ordinary old glass vase, almost without spending money? Very simple.

Method 1

For further work, stock up on the following materials:

  • Smooth glass flower vase.
  • Napkins with a beautiful ornament.
  • Sharp scissors.

Important! The word “sharp” is very important here, as napkins are a very thin and moody material. When manipulating it with blunt scissors, it can break and ruin the whole look.

  • Acrylic paints.
  • Decoupage glue or PVA glue.
  • Brushes of different sizes.

Below will be a detailed algorithm of how to decorate a vase with napkins:

  • Prepare a vase - remove the dirt, degrease it, wipe it with acetone or the liquid with which the glasses are washed.
  • Coat the base with prepared white acrylic paint. Cover the places where the ornament will be.

Important! Particular attention should be paid to the upper and lower parts of the vase.

  • Dry the vase, leaving it in this position for about 4 hours.
  • Carefully cut the ornament from the napkin.
  • After the vase is completely dry, glue a floral ornament on it.

Important! A perfectly even arrangement of the pattern can be ensured by making small cuts on it immediately after it is cut out.

  • Further, decorating a vase with your own hands will not be so difficult. As a decor, you can use anything you want - threads, rhinestones, decorative beads.

Method 2

For the next workshop, we will need the following items:

  • Smooth glass vase.
  • Decoupage soil.
  • Acrylic paint.
  • Tassels.
  • Napkins with an ornament.
  • Sponge.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • File
  • Adhesive for decoupage or PVA.

Decoration process:

  • To clear of dirt and degrease a vase.
  • Mix the decoupage primer with acrylic paint (you can choose the color yourself) in a separate container.

Important! If the mixture turned out to be too thick, you can add a little water, otherwise - the decoupage of a vase from do-it-yourself napkins will ultimately not be as beautiful as expected.

  • Cut a small piece from a regular dishwashing sponge, dip it in a painted primer, then apply the mixture to the vase with very light pressing movements.
  • Wait for the soil to dry. It takes a few hours
  • Cut a suitable ornament from a decoupage or regular napkin.
  • Get rid of the lower layers, leave only the top one.
  • Prepare a file for documents, sprinkle it with water, put the cut-out drawing “face” down.

Important! On the file, the picture is perfectly aligned, it will not show any noticeable ugly folds.

  • When the paper is completely saturated with water, drain excess water.
  • Carefully lift the file, attach a damp cloth to the vase. The napkin should stick to the vessel.
  • Decorate the vase with your own hands with decoupage drawings in other places, if you plan.

Important! Do not be afraid to correct the drawing with your fingers if necessary.

  • Wait until the paper drawing dries out a little.
  • Go through the ornament with a brush dipped in a solution of PVA glue with water. Direction - from the center to the edges.
  • The edges of the drawings can be painted in the same color as the vase was painted with soil. So the transition will be the smoothest.
  • Dry the vessel thoroughly, then cover it with three layers of varnish.

The vase is ready!

Egg Decoupage

In order to decorate a vase with your own hands in a completely new way, you will need the following materials:

  • Glass vase.
  • Egg shell without film.
  • Glue.
  • Wide, flat brush.
  • Decoupage napkin.
  • Toothpick.
  • Light brown acrylic paint.
  • Lacquer.

The decoration process is very painstaking:

  1. Crush the white eggshell with your fingers.
  2. Apply glue to the entire surface of the bottle, except for the bottom.
  3. Glue the shell on the bottle, squeezing it a little, using a toothpick with a moistened tip. Thus, you need to cover the entire bottle.
  4. After the product has completely dried, cover it with white acrylic paint.
  5. Choose the right tone of brown paint and decorate the vase with your own hands, wetting the composition with a sponge and applying dye to the vessel.
  6. Wipe the vessel with a rag after each layer of brown paint - this is necessary in order to give the surface a greater relief.
  7. Further, if desired, you can decorate the surface using a decoupage napkin, as described in previous workshops.
  8. At the end, the vase is covered with several layers of varnish and allowed to dry.
