The process of processing and assembling a Japanese bed

Do-it-yourself Japanese furniture is made in several stages. Remember that the quality, durability, reliability, service life of the future product depends on how well you do everything on each of them.

Production Instruction:

  • First of all, process all the blanks for the assembly of the bed. With a plane, remove all irregularities, protrusions, defects from the boards. Given the fact that according to the drawings, the thickness of the boards should not exceed 4 cm, you will have to remove the extra layer of wood.
  • Then start preparing the legs. Japanese beds, as a rule, have legs of insignificant height, not more than 30 cm. But here it is also necessary to take into account your own needs. From the boards already processed, cut the blanks to make four legs.
  • Cut out the details of the head, foot, skirting of the frame. It is important that the foot of the width was more than the head by 8 cm.
  • Form the corner cuts at an angle of 45 degrees, since the rear edge will have to be inserted between the side elements.
  • Make the same bevels on the front ends of the sidewalls. It is easier to do this with the help of a square.

Important! If you can’t make a straight cut straight away, then refine it with a plane.

  • Given that the frame should be rectangular, it is better to use corners to give it a perfect shape, strength, reliability. You can use furniture legs as corners. On the workpiece, mark the middle, then select the wood from the top, form a groove. In depth and height, it should correspond to the parameters of the side panel.
  • Carefully sand all workpieces, remove burrs, bumps.
  • Assemble the frame using self-tapping screws.
  • Secure the ribs from the inside with bolts.
  • Pull the entire structure in the middle of the longitudinal beam to give it extra strength. You can make this beam from a metal bar or a thick bar.
  • Then the rack base of the mattress and the headboard are attached.
  • At the final stage, the entire bed is sanded, painted or stained, and varnished from above. In addition, the softener is glued, the upholstery is attached to the head.
