Adhesive for mirrors

Mirrors are often used in apartments both as a decorative element of the interior, and as a functional item. Of course, such a detail may already be part of an interior item, such as a cabinet. But if you buy it separately, you have to think about the installation method. If we are talking about fixing them on any surface, then the question immediately becomes relevant: is there glue for mirrors? If yes, which one is the highest quality? This will be discussed in the article.

Bonding to the cabinet

By gluing a mirror product to the cabinet, you can refresh the pretty annoying interior, give it originality. The question often arises: how to attach a mirror surface to the cabinet door.

First of all, make a marking and carefully mark with a marker the place on the door where you are going to place this decor item. Very often use double-sided tape. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  1. Fix the adhesive tape around the perimeter of the mirror on the back side.
  2. Complete the strips glued around the perimeter with vertical segments of adhesive tape glued after 30-40 cm.
  3. Apply mirror glue to the back.
  4. Remove the protective layer from the adhesive tape segments and fix the product on the furniture, in accordance with the previously applied markings.

How to stick a mirror to the wall?

This is another important issue for those wishing to create a new interior. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. Thoroughly prepare the wall. Strip out any irregularities on it, and then prime it. Choose a primer with deep impregnation. This will achieve good adhesion of the glue.
  2. Prepare a thick double-sided tape. Stick it on the back of the mirror. The distance between the segments of adhesive tape is 60-70 cm. The use of adhesive tape is explained by the fact that the mirror needs to be supported on something until the glue hardens completely.
  3. Remove the protective layer from the tape. Immediately afterwards, using a glue gun, apply glue on the back, between the strips of duct tape. The distance between the tape segments is 15-20 cm.
  4. Immediately attach the mirror to the wall at the marking site, press firmly.

Important! To completely eliminate the risk of the mirror falling from the wall, make temporary horizontal support at the bottom of the product. Leave it on until the adhesive has completely set. As a rule, polymerization will take from 20 to 30 minutes, but the composition will completely harden only after a day.

Liquid Nails

Is it possible to glue a mirror on “liquid nails”? Practice shows that this clamp successfully replaces adhesive tape:

  • When compared with PVA glue, the strength of the joint with “liquid nails” is 10 times higher.
  • Another plus of liquid nails is that it retains a mirror finish.
  • With this composition, you can fix the mirror surface on the wall with wallpaper, on a wooden, ceramic or metal surface.

Before you begin installation work, carefully read the instructions for “liquid nails”. Glue can be applied in two ways - with a spatula or glue gun.

Important! After the package of “liquid nails” is open, the composition can be used for another 12 months. It fully retains properties.

It is possible to work with glue only in a well-ventilated room, since the composition contains toxic substances. The optimal storage temperature varies between 5-25 degrees.

Bonding Mirror Surfaces

Sometimes it becomes necessary to glue together two mirror surfaces. Will such a design hold firmly? If everything is done correctly, it will undoubtedly be. Such work cannot be called complicated and time-consuming, but certain basic knowledge is still needed. There are two options for gluing mirrors.

Bonding side faces

This method allows you to significantly increase the surface area with a mirror coating, but it is quite complicated, requires accuracy and scrupulousness. If you plan to fix such a design on the wall, then it is advisable to mount each of the mirrors separately, and then adjust their relative position. For bonding faces, special compositions for mirrors are used. Such fastening is not particularly strong, therefore it is used infrequently.

Bonding surfaces

This method is used when there is an old mirror that has lost its presentable appearance, but you cannot remove it for some reason. A new product can simply be glued with it.

How to glue a mirror to a wall with ceramic cladding?

The procedure is almost no different from gluing a mirror product onto a wall without facing. The only feature is the filling of the gap between the back surface of the mirror and the wall. The sequence of operations is as follows:

  • Apply special glue around the perimeter of the mirror on the back side. The distance from the edge should be no less than 20 mm so as not to stain the product with excess glue.
  • Apply the adhesive in the central part, in the form of a grate.
  • Glue the product in the right place and press firmly.

Important! Take care of creating a decorative support so that the product does not accidentally fall.

  • After the adhesive has fully polymerized, seal the gap between the mirror and the wall with a colorless or white sealant.

This glue for mirrors is considered one of the best and most reliable. It consists of rubber and organic resins, which provide maximum reliability to the compounds.

Important! Glue "Titan" is suitable for attaching mirrors to wood, concrete, drywall, ceramics or metal.

The main properties of the joint:

  • Water resistance, elasticity.
  • Good adhesion, and this applies to a variety of surfaces.
  • High bond strength.
  • Preservation of mirror amalgam.

The tool is extremely easy to use and low cost.

Abro

This composition is characterized by good strength and a short polymerization period. It is popular with motorists for mounting rear view mirrors. It is sold in two ampoules - with glue and a polymerization activator.

Loctite

This is a two-component composition that is in great demand among consumers. The main difference is the combination of high efficiency and economical spending. The aerosol composition is particularly suitable for use.
