How to make a drywall partition?

A drywall partition is a great way to divide a room into separate zones or into several self-contained rooms. This material is considered universal and, despite the relatively recent appearance on the market, has gained considerable popularity. Moreover, such a design looks very attractive, and to erect it yourself is not at all difficult. If everything is done correctly, the interior will look stylish and original. How to make a partition from drywall - we will analyze in detail in this article.

Important! There are many design options, but in any case, the basis of the design is a wooden or metal frame.

Advantages and disadvantages

Drywall used to make partitions has a number of advantages over other materials:

  • Relatively small mass, which significantly reduces the complexity of construction work.
  • Excellent load-bearing ability, which makes it possible to fix decor elements on a newly erected wall.
  • If the partition is erected correctly, it, despite its lightness, provides good sound insulation.
  • Special moisture-resistant varieties of drywall sheets allow you to block the space in rooms with high humidity - in the bathroom, bathroom.
  • Plasterboard structures are convenient for laying inside communications and engineering systems.
  • It is very easy to work with this material, the configuration of the design can be different. It is possible to make the design of the room unusual and original.
  • Affordable price.

Important! Of course, the finished wall will have to be covered with putty, but the amount of plastering is much less than, for example, with a brick wall.

Drywall and individual cons are not without:

  • Comparative fragility.
  • Instability to a large amount of water. If the neighbors from above flood you, even moisture resistant material will collapse.
  • Inability to mount massive structures such as wall cabinets or heavy shelves on the wall.

Important! The partition mounted on the frame can withstand no more than 70 kg per 1 linear meter. “Stamina” of drywall sheet and even less - 15 kg.

Preparatory stage

Before you build a drywall partition, first think over its design, make drawings or at least sketches. You won’t have to do any extra complicated calculations, but you need to think over the entire device in detail in advance:

  • Using your own artistic abilities or a special computer program, make a drawing of the room to scale.
  • Draw the place where the installation of the drywall partition is planned.
  • If you have planned to build several partitions, then start making a drawing with the one to which the rest will be attached.
  • Follow the frontal drawing indicating the supporting structures.

Important! Please note that when sheathing the frame with plasterboard sheets, their edges are attached to different profiles of the frame, which will allow you to evenly distribute the load throughout the frame.

The next step will be the procurement of materials and the preparation of the necessary set of tools that will be useful to you at work to make a plasterboard partition with your own hands.

Instruments

You will need the following tools to work:

  • Accessories for marking - ruler, pencil, tape measure, building level.
  • Scissors for metal or “grinder” for cutting the profile.
  • Construction knife.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Hammer or hammer drill.
  • Electric screwdriver.

Materials required for installation of the partition:

  • Profile. It is possible to use materials with a base width of 50, 75 and 100 mm.

Important! The higher the room, the wider the profile should be used. The same applies to the thickness of drywall sheets.

  • Drywall - when choosing sheets, you must consider the type of room.
  • Dowels.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Damper tape - as a gasket between the main floors and the metal profile.
  • Corner Profiles.

Important! You may also need (optional):

  • corrugation for laying electrical cables;
  • insulation material.

How to assemble a frame?

First, using the compiled drawing, mark the room:

  1. Putting the required distances along the walls, draw a line on the floor.
  2. Using a plumb line and level, mark the ceiling.
  3. Prepare guide profiles for operation.
  4. Apply sealing tape to one side and fix them according to the markings on the ceiling and floor.
  5. It is advisable to use dowels and screws for attaching profiles.

Important! Mount the rack profiles from the wall. The first profile should be firmly against the surface of the wall.

Racks are mounted directly to the rails. To increase the soundproofing effect of the structure, prior to installation, glue the profiles with tape made of sound-absorbing material. The number of racks to install depends on the size and design of the partition.

Important! In order to make the structure more stable, mount stiffeners over its entire area.

How to make a plasterboard partition with your own hands: frame sheathing

Before you begin to sheathe the frame, you need to properly cut drywall in accordance with the design of the inner wall:

  1. Fix the drywall to the frame using self-tapping screws with an interval of 25 mm.
  2. Go from one sheet to another, not forgetting to monitor the density of joints.
  3. Also make sure that the edges of the sheets fit onto the profile.

Important! The opening in the partition can be either a classic rectangular shape, or the most diverse configuration.

How to make a partition from drywall - additional recommendations:

  • Inside the partition, engineering networks and communications can be hidden. It can be both electrical wiring and water pipes. At the same time, the laying of communications is carried out at the stage of installation of the frame.

Important! Experts recommend laying electric cables horizontally in a special corrugation.

  • At the installation stage of the frame, sound insulation and wall insulation can be carried out. To do this, carefully place insulating material between the racks. Be sure to fasten it!

If all the work is done correctly and accurately, the gypsum board partition cannot be distinguished in appearance from the usual load-bearing wall.
