Preparatory process

The walls, of course, differ in structure, and this must be taken into account when preparing. But most often they perform the same procedures:

• Level the surface.
• Get rid of the shortcomings with putty.
• They clean and primer the surface.

Alignment

To prepare the walls for painting after wallpaper or other material by leveling, the surface can be:

• Grind. You can grind a fairly strong base, the level of which changes no more than 2-3 mm. In addition, it should not have significant defects. This removes the old coating and a small layer of plaster under it. A simple tool is used for this: a block around which sandpaper is wrapped.
• Smooth with plaster. In the presence of significant surface curvature, plastering along the beacons or finishing using drywall is performed.

Puttying

The first layer is applied starting putty, which is sold as a ready-made mortar or dry mix. To apply the starting putty, a glass cloth masking grid is used:

1. Putty 2-3 mm put on the surface with a wide spatula.
2. A narrow spatula is used to align the small protrusions and distribute the mortar.
3. We put a masking net on the wall and grind it with putty, using a spatula.
4. On the grid, apply the starting putty with a layer of 2 mm.
5. Dry the surface for 5-7 hours.
6. Overwrite the wall.

Important! Finishing putty is used to get rid of the strokes that coarse-grained grid leaves. Her consistency is homogeneous, finely dispersed, so the surface as a result is perfectly smooth. In addition, the paint is not very absorbed into it.

The finishing putty is applied in the same way as the starting putty, but the layer will have a different thickness. The optimal layer thickness is considered to be 1.5-2 mm. When the surface is dry, it must be sanded, using fine-grained sandpaper.

Padding

So that the process of preparing the walls for painting after wallpaper is high-quality, the surface must be primed before applying the decorative solution.

Important! Before applying the primer, from the walls covered with finishing putty, the generated building dust should be removed. To do this, use a vacuum cleaner, dry rags or a soft brush.

Acrylic primer has gained the most popularity. It is universal, can be applied to almost all surfaces.

For priming it is used:

• Roller;
• Wide brush;
• Spray gun.

1. To remove duplex or paper wallpaper, they are soaked. To do this, use a wet rag or sponge. After half an hour, the base of the paper is removed with a spatula. If necessary, the procedure is repeated.
2. On acrylic, non-woven and vinyl wallpaper, first get rid of the top moisture-proof film. Then you need to do as described in paragraph above.
3. Residual adhesive is removed with a spatula.
4. A thin layer of primer is applied to the scratches that appear, and then a finishing putty.

Important! To make the metal spatula a good scraper, its blade is shortened to a length of 2-3 cm. You can use old tools - there the blade is made of thick and stiff metal.

How to get rid of paint?

But what to do if you need to remove the paint itself? Dealing with it is also quite difficult:

• Sometimes in this case they use a metal brush with a short bristle. But it will not always help, since only smoothing of the paint layer can occur.
• Most often, it is more efficient to use a set of nozzles, which includes scrapers of various shapes. For their independent manufacture, chisels, wide screwdrivers and spatulas are used.
• To facilitate and speed up the process using a special nozzle. It looks like a rod on which short chains are fixed. A few links will suffice. It must be inserted into the drill chuck and clamped. The drill must be parallel to the surface being cleaned. When the drill starts to rotate, with the help of chains, the paint simply gets off.
• You can use special chemical washes, but they must be used in compliance with all safety measures and instructions from the manufacturer. They give the effect of removing the old coating quite quickly.

Important! If the future will again be applied to the wall, it must first be putty.
