Amber Cleaning

Before you clean the amber at home, you need to know how this can be done. Since this semiprecious stone is rather capricious, categorically it is impossible to apply for its processing:

  • ultrasound;
  • steam generator;
  • aggressive alkalis and acids - even ordinary soap is not suitable;
  • alcohols and solvents;
  • special chemicals intended for cleaning other precious products, especially metals;
  • abrasive powders, brushes, washcloths, graters.

Important! The use of these substances and tools can not only contribute to the appearance of scratches or cracks, but completely destroy the stone. Therefore, if you are afraid to clean amber at home with your own hands, it is better to take it to a professional jeweler.

Amber Shine Recovery

To restore the luster of a clouded stone, but not to provoke a situation when the mineral is completely and irrevocably covered with a whitish coating, proceed as follows:

  1. Rub a soft flannel cloth with paraffin.
  2. Rub a little tooth powder on the same piece - never paste!
  3. Grind the paraffin with powder on a rag to a homogeneous mass until processing the jewelry.
  4. As soon as the mixture is the right consistency, gently polish the amber until its full shine is restored.

Important! Another way to clean amber at home and restore its luster is to leave it overnight in slightly salted warm water. In the morning, take it out, dry it in the open air for about half an hour and rub it with olive oil heated to 37 degrees. The finishing touch is polishing with a woolen cloth.
