Film is a quick way to refresh the look of your kitchen set

This option to update the kitchen set will not make you spend a lot, because getting a self-adhesive film is quite simple, and it will cost very cheap.

Important! At this time, the film can imitate completely different types of materials - leather, wood or stone. Therefore, to deal with a suitable design, even with the most original idea, will not be very difficult.

The only thing worth noting is that you should not buy very cheap films, because the material should be of high quality and practical. One of the best options for choosing a film is vinyl, as it is resistant to moisture, a sharp change in temperature, and can also retain its appearance for a long time and not deteriorate.

So, to update the countertop using a film, you will need:

  • The film itself;
  • Knife;
  • Ruler and pencil;
  • Centimeter (tape measure);
  • Rubber scraper.

Well, let's get started!

  1. The first thing you should do is to find out the size of the headset that you want to replace, and if necessary, smooth out all the bumps on the table itself. This is necessary because the film has a property that you should not forget about - it exactly repeats the surface on which it is applied. Therefore, it is worth seriously enough to approach the surface preparation process.
  2. After you know all the necessary sizes, you need to make marks on the wrong side of the film, using them we will cut the canvas into the pieces we need.

Important! If you use a film with a picture, then you should look so that the picture matches, otherwise it will be ugly.

  1. Using a stationery knife and a ruler, try to cut the most even pieces of film. The more equal, the better.
  2. Next, using a rubber scraper, which will help us in smoothing out irregularities, glue the film on the prepared surface of the table.

All, congratulations, your countertop has acquired a new beautiful look!

To make everything neat and really interesting, take note of these tips:

  • To sticker the wallpaper, you must also use a meter to measure and cut even pieces of wallpaper and stick them on the surface of the countertop.
  • To make the wallpaper last longer, it is better to opt for vinyl self-adhesive wallpaper.
  • But if you chose traditional wallpaper, you should remember that after their sticker, several layers of varnish should be applied to the surface. This is necessary so that the surface retains its appearance longer.

Concrete worktop pouring

This method of updating countertops in the kitchen is more time-consuming and takes place in several stages. But with accurate step-by-step execution, all your work will pay off with interest in the original surface design and its durability.

Make the frame

Since the concrete worktop will be quite heavy, you need to make a new, solid frame for it:

  1. Racks of the frame will be made of large bars, and the joints between them from bars of 50x40 mm.
  2. The frame must be stable, in this regard, we make 8 mm holes in the rack, which will adjoin directly to the wall.
  3. In the wall at the same level we make empty holes, and fasten it all with bolts.
  4. Racks above and below will be connected by jumpers.
  5. On the floor we will fix the frame with solid iron corners.

Important! The evenness of the frame should be determined by the building level.

  1. Next, we should do the production of formwork. Its bottom can be made non-removable by spreading it on a frame and fixing boards on it. We cover them with polyethylene.
  2. The sides are assembled from boards so that their height matches the required thickness of the countertop.

Important! The horizontal formwork is also worth checking the construction level.

  1. The inner walls of the formwork should be sanded and painted.

Important! On the side where the countertop meets the wall, the side does not need to be made, since instead you can install an aluminum beacon - it will not be able to rust, respectively - there will be no need to worry that rust will appear on the table.

We make the bottom

The collapsible bottom is made as follows:

  1. On the inner side of the upper jumpers, horizontal bars are screwed.
  2. On them we put boards of chipboard, plywood or OSB.
  3. On the outside, we attach boards to the frame, the width of which will be the same width of your countertop.
  4. We fasten the sides to them.
  5. We cover the formwork with polyethylene.
  6. After the work done, reinforcement is inserted into the formwork, so that a lattice with cells of 50x50 mm is obtained. It is recommended to tie the reinforcement with wire or plastic clamps.

Important! The reinforcement grille should not lie on the very bottom of the formwork. You can do this by simply placing the cutter rods under the grill.

  1. Then set the beacon on the level that we need.

Now, after we have strengthened our countertop, we can begin to pour concrete.

Solution preparation

The pouring concrete should not be too liquid, but not too thick so that it can be evenly distributed throughout the grill of rods.

The mixture can be obtained in 2 ways:

  • For preparation, you can use cement M-500 in the form of a ready-made dry mixture or a liquid solution. At the same time, the age of cement should not be more than one month.
  • If you decide to prepare the solution with your own hands, you need cement, sand and gravel in a ratio of 1: 2: 3.

When mixing with your own hands, follow these rules:

  • Water is gradually added after the other components have already been mixed.
  • A plasticizer is also worth injecting with water.
  • Together with it, it is possible to introduce a pigment into concrete, so that later the artificial stone takes the form of granite or a stone of another breed, in general, what your soul wants.

Important! Do not pour dry color - it is better to dilute it with water before adding. So the color of the finished material will be uniform.

Fill concrete:

  1. We fill the formwork with concrete at a time to prevent cracking of tiles in the future.
  2. Leveling the solution follows the rule based on the beacon profile and the side parallel to it.
  3. The final grouting of the surface is done with a grater.
  4. After pouring concrete must be covered with plastic wrap.

Important! Every day during the first week, the surface of the countertop must be moistened by spraying with water from a spray bottle. After 7 days, the formwork can be disassembled.

You succeeded in updating the countertop! We hope you are happy with the result. And how to decorate such a surface, we will describe below.

Tiling and polishing “granite”

These 2 options look very worthy in terms of aesthetics, so they also have a place among interesting ideas used to update the countertop in the kitchen.

Making the tiles

Ceramic tiles will look very organic on the countertop of the kitchen table, because most often the walls and the floor of this room are decorated with tiles. When choosing a material, be sure to correlate the design of these surfaces with the intended table decor so that everything looks harmonious.

The work itself is done this way:

  1. With a spatula, apply glue evenly throughout the table.
  2. The tile should be laid from the noticeable edge of the table, that is, from the front edge of the countertop.
  3. Crosses can be installed between the tiles so that the seams are the same and at the end the surface looks attractive.
  4. It is worth checking the evenness with a building level.
  5. It is better to glue the cut off parts of a tile near a wall.
  6. At the end, the joints between the tiles are grouted.

Important! The visible part of the table should be covered with a facing profile, which can be mounted on tile glue or liquid nails. You may also need to use grout between them.

We polish the countertop “under the granite”

In order to polish the countertop “under the granite”, it is worth using the grinding machine intended for this. The progress of the work so that the countertop looks like granite will be as follows:

  1. First of all, we process concrete with a coarse-grained nozzle to an ideally flat surface. Absolutely all irregularities must be removed. Only after that proceed with processing the table with a small abrasive.
  2. Then use a vacuum cleaner to remove all dust.
  3. Using a special filler for concrete, we create a waterproof film on the surface of an unprepared countertop.
  4. Finishing touches are applied with polishing with a suede nozzle at low speeds.
