Buy or sew a dress or dressing gown?

In the stores of wedding dresses you will certainly find many interesting models of boudoir dresses. The trouble in one thing - like all things for the bride and groom, they are often expensive. Money in a young family is not superfluous. So, if you have a sewing machine and you know how to handle it a little, it is better to do it yourself. But before you sew a boudoir dress, look what style suits you.

What to choose?

You can always choose a suitable model if you soberly evaluate the features of your figure. The first morning it is especially important to emphasize your merits. The figure may be:

  • slim;
  • slim, but with a big bust;
  • with small breasts but wide hips;
  • complete.

In addition, there are frequent cases when the expectant mother gets married. Will a boudoir dress fit her? Of course. But not the style worn by slender elegant young ladies.

Slim figure

In principle, slender girls can afford anything. They look good and flared skirts, and wide sleeves, and a peplum belt, and lush assembly. You can choose a one-piece sleeve or dress with an open shoulder as in the photo.

Important! By the way, those who, due to scoliosis, have one shoulder higher than the other, need an asymmetric option.

Big breasts

This raises the question - do you want to emphasize the beauty of your bust or hide it. In the first case, a deep neckline or a V-neck is suitable - you want to emphasize your femininity, right? But if you do not want too close attention to your breasts, choose a dress with a yoke or with a peplum under your chest.

Wide hips

Wide hips and a slender upper are a great combination. There is nothing wrong with drawing attention to the lower part of your body. A multilayer skirt is good for this. But at the same time it is better to make the upper part narrow. In general, the dress should look like a ball gown.

Bride in an interesting position

Expectant mother also wants to be beautiful. And in this she should not deny herself. In this case, you should not choose a fitted option. A wide-bodied flirty dress, as well as a Greek with shoulder assemblies, will suit you. You can complement it with a beautiful lace belt.

Choose a dress

If you still decide to buy a boudoir outfit, pay attention to some points. By the way, these tips will be useful when choosing a fabric. It is necessary to consider:

  • color;
  • style;
  • material.

Which color is better?

The main rule - the dress should emphasize the color of the skin. Designers quite often advise choosing a boudoir dress of the same shade as the wedding one. The bride’s outfit is not necessarily made white. However, the white color has dozens of warm or cold shades, so you can choose something suitable for the dark-skinned girl, and for the Snow Queen.

Follow all the advice of professional designers is not necessary. A boudoir dress can be anything - it all depends on your mood. Of course, pastel colors always look good, but if you are truly happy and want the whole world to rejoice with you, nothing prevents you from stitching your morning outfit from something bright and rich. But it is better to choose a fabric without a pattern.

Talk about styles

What is your character? And what do you want to be at the wedding and immediately after it? There are many options:

  • You are a cheerful person with a light character;
  • You are serious and do not accept frivolity;
  • You want to emphasize your sex appeal.

Important! In the first case, a model with frills, sleeves, wings, an abundance of lace is suitable. It is better for a strict woman to choose a classic straight style with a very high-quality finish. Finally, for one who wants to seem relaxed and sexy, you can sew a dress with a long slit and a deep neckline.

Material

Immediately discard dense heavy fabrics, even if they look luxurious. This is not the case at all. Fit for you:

  • fine silk;
  • fine knitwear;
  • tulle;
  • atlas;
  • chiffon;
  • lace fabric.

We sew dress

If you are going to sew a simple but elegant boudoir dress with your own hands, the master class will take very little time. The main thing is to choose the right fabric.

Important! For a simple style, fine knitwear or crepe de chine is suitable. The cut should be wide enough - 140 or 150 cm.

Cutting can be done directly on the fabric, for which you will need:

  • a long line (it is best to take a tailor's meter - such as that used by sellers in a fabric store);
  • pencil, chalk or soap - depending on the color and texture of the material;
  • sharp scissors.

Cut marking

To sew a loose boudoir dress, you need to know a few measurements:

  • product length;
  • neck circumference;
  • the height of the armhole (from the shoulder to the line passing under the chest);
  • waist circumference
  • the length of the cut from the bottom, if any.

Fabric calculation is extremely simple - two product lengths.

Important! This style suits both dumplings and skinny. The main advantage of the model is that you can sew a great boudoir dress without any pattern at all.

To begin, fold the cut in half so that the edges coincide, and spread it on a large table or on the floor. Layers can be chipped along the edges so that they do not slip, and then:

  1. Find the middle of the fold and make a mark.
  2. Divide your neck circumference by 4 and add 3 cm to this measurement.
  3. Set aside what came of you, to the right and left of the middle of the fold.
  4. Make a cut between these new points.
  5. On the edges, postpone the height of the armhole and also make marks - these points can be connected by lines in the front and behind, so that it is easier to sew on the peplum.
  6. Set the cut length aside from the slices - it can be on one side or both.

Assembly

The assembly of such a dress is extremely simple:

  1. First you need to stitch the side seams. Since they go along the edges, they do not even have to be processed.
  2. But in order to lay the shoulder folds, you need an assistant. They should be absolutely symmetrical, but they can be guided in different ways - towards the neck or towards the shoulder. Folds are laid and chipped with pins.
  3. Try on what happened, tweak it if necessary, and then stitch your product along the shoulder seams (more precisely, where they usually go).
  4. We do the second line of folds under the breast. Actually, you do not need to invent anything - they are already laid on the shoulders, it remains only to align them and stitch them along the line running under the chest in front and behind. That is all the seamstress should do.
  5. Then the “designer" comes into play - the dress needs to be decorated.

Important! The folds closest to the neck should be 4-5 cm from the cut so that the cut can be modeled.

Neck Design Methods

The boudoir dress is most often decorated with lace. Here, as they say, options are possible - lace can be in tone, contrast or a little different shade. The main thing is that all the lace details on the dress should be the same color.

There are several options for making the neck;

  • semicircular neckline trimmed with lace;
  • turndown collar;
  • lace stand;
  • V-neck without lace.

Option 1

For a semicircular cutout, the neck needs to be slightly expanded and a smooth arc should be drawn between the extreme points - in front a little deeper than behind. Next, proceed as follows:

  1. If the dress is made of knitwear, process the cut-out with an overlock, at the crepe de chine, sew a basting seam of 0.4 and 1 cm.
  2. Take in not very wide and not particularly stiff lace around the entire perimeter of the neckline, folding it with folds. You need to sweep to the wrong side, aligning the straight edge of the lace with the hem seam.
  3. Stitch lace.

Option 2

A turn-down collar is usually bought separately, so the neck is cut off along it. Vologda lace collars look great, and besides, they are usually quite soft.

How to sew on it depends on the collar model. Sometimes it is sewn onto the finished fabric, sometimes the concave edge is stitched to the neckline, and the seam is swept and ironed from the inside to the side of the dress.

Option 3

The lace stand is made of wide elastic lace, not particularly stiff. The neckline does not need to be modeled, just a piece of lace is cut along the cutout, the ends are neatly sewn or hemmed, a fastener is made on small buttons or hooks, and then the collar is neatly sewn to the cutout.

Option 4

Lace up the neck of a boudoir dress is not necessary at all! You can make a long cut in the front or back, just cut over the hem or hem.

Bottom Design Options

The bottom can also be done in two ways:

  • overcast or hem;
  • trim with narrow lace.

With different types of tissues, we do this:

  • Crepe de Chine, silk and other crumbling fabrics - we hem.
  • Knitwear - overcast.
  • As for lace, then you can give full rein to imagination.
  • You can take a thin one and just sew it along the contour.
  • The cuts can be emphasized by making a wider edging.

Important! Of course, it will be necessary to make a belt from the same lace.

Boudoir dress with a layered skirt

This model is made of two types of fabric:

  • tulle;
  • silk or knitwear.

The model will be with an open shoulder. For the top, you will need a basic pattern of a fitted blouse - more precisely, in front and back of it.The front piece should be transferred to a large sheet of paper and made up of the whole part of the shelf from two halves, and then model the pattern:

  1. From the bottom of one of the armholes, retreat along the side slice of 2 cm.
  2. Connect this point with an arch to the top of the armhole.
  3. From the bottom of the second armhole, also retreat along the side cut of 2 cm.
  4. Connect this point with a straight line with the end of the neck located on the opposite side.
  5. Cut the part along the contour.
  6. Do the same with the patterns of the back.

Important! Tucks are not transferred anywhere, they must be carefully circled.

Cut

For the top you will need a piece of knitwear, thin silk or crepe de Chine with a width of 110-140 cm. Its length is equal to the distance from the upper point of the shoulder to the waist. When working:

  1. Spread the fabric with the wrong side up.
  2. Circle parts with 1.5 cm allowances on all sides.

Top assembly

There is nothing complicated about it. The order will be the most common:

  1. Sew tucks.
  2. Stitch side seams and shoulder.
  3. Sew over the allowances.
  4. Sew hem.

Skirt

The skirt is made of tulle. This material comes in different colors. Its main advantage is its large width.

Important! When cutting, it is not necessary to observe the position of the shared and transverse threads.

The skirt is sewn on the pattern of the skirt-sun. The pattern for this is not necessary, but it is important to know the radius of the notch and the length of the product:

  1. The fabric can be laid out in one layer and outline the center.
  2. From this center draw a circle with a radius equal to the circumference of your waist divided by 6.28.
  3. From the same point, draw a second circle, adding the length of the product to the radius of the notch.
  4. Cut out the ring.
  5. There is no need to leave allowances for hem; only a small allowance for the belt. The second and third layers are exactly the same.

Important! Decorating tulle with lace is not worth it, but embroidery in tone will look very good.

Belt

It is better to make it out of a wide elastic band to match. Anyway, there will be a lace belt on top or something like that:

  1. Sew the ring from the elastic, and then sew the upper section of the skirt to the belt. Just remember that the gum needs to be slightly stretched.
  2. Sew the upper part to the free side.

Important! It is best in both cases to use a zigzag.

Decoration

The only part of such a dress that needs additional decoration is the closed shoulder. It can be issued:

  • embroidery;
  • rhinestones;
  • sequins.

Important! If you don’t have time for this, just pick a beautiful brooch.
