Adjusting the plastic windows yourself

Today, no one doubts the popularity of plastic windows, because they are of high quality, but at the same time they are inexpensive. In addition, they perfectly protect against street noise and are incredibly simple in terms of operation. Nevertheless, even the most high-quality designs need care, namely, preventive adjustment by the master. If you do not want to waste time calling a specialist, to part with money, then carefully study today's article in which we will tell you how to adjust the plastic windows yourself.

Common problems with plastic windows

Before you adjust the plastic windows yourself, determine the cause of the problem, because the chosen method of eliminating it will depend on this.

More often, users encounter such typical malfunctions that need to be fixed by themselves:

  • When closing the window from the bottom or side touches the frame.
  • The shutter ceased to fit snugly against the frame.
  • The locking bars were worn out.
  • The handle was locked in the open position, the window stopped closing.
  • When the sash is closed, the handle does not turn and the window does not close.
  • The handle is out of order.
  • The handle began to turn tight.

Be sure to adjust the necessary tools:

  • Hexagon.
  • Pliers.
  • Flat and Phillips screwdrivers.

Basic principles for adjusting windows

Do-it-yourself adjustment of plastic windows, regardless of the nature of the malfunctions, must occur qualitatively, correctly, according to the instructions, which can be found without problems even on the Internet, because such documents are not hidden from the public.

The general principles of adjustment include the following:

  • The flaps are regulated in almost all modern models of plastic PVC windows in three planes, which allows to achieve the ideal position of the flaps relative to the frame and to achieve the optimal level of pressure clamps of the seals around the perimeter.
  • The way to solve problems with the fittings, the appearance of the component parts, the tools used in the course of work, can vary greatly - it all depends on the manufacturer.

DIY plastic windows adjustment

Now we will examine in detail how PVC windows are adjusted independently in each specific case so that you do not have questions during the course of the work. We will tell you exactly what tools should be used, in what sequence it is necessary to repair window structures.

Sash touches the bottom of the frame when closing

The first thing in this case is to move the structure towards the upper loop and up, that is, perform the following steps:

  1. Open the sash.
  2. Turn the adjusting screw clockwise, which is located near the upper loop at the end, using a hexagon.
  3. Close the sash.
  4. Remove the cap from the bottom hinge.
  5. Insert the hexagon into it, make a couple of turns clockwise.
  6. Check the sash for free play, adjust until the fault is resolved.

When closing, the side window touches the frame

In this situation, the adjustment of PVC windows with their own hands is done by moving the sash towards the hinge.

Perform the following manipulations for this:

  1. If the sash only touches the frame from below, then it is enough to take it to the side of the lower hinge. Use the adjusting screw located under the bottom hinge.
  2. If the sash touches the frame along the entire height, then it will have to be taken away towards the upper hinge.

Failure of locking strips

Naturally, in this case, it is necessary to check the locking strips, following the instructions:

  1. Open the window and carefully inspect the locking strips, which are often located one on each side around the perimeter of the sash.
  2. If you notice their wear, this indicates that the window is unevenly sitting in the frame.
  3. To solve the problem, remove the plastic plugs from the adjusting bolts that are on the hinges above and below. Loosen the bolts with a hexagon.
  4. Adjust the position of the top of the sash with the adjusting screw. Adjust all parts left-right relative to the frame, then go to the bottom screw and do the adjustment up and down.

Important! Carefully monitor the accuracy of the work, open and close the window until you see that it evenly and tightly fits into the frame.

Casement does not fit snugly to the frame

The adjustment of the hinges of the plastic windows, in particular, the density of the sash's pressure against the frame, is carried out using a system of eccentrics, which are located on its lateral end. Depending on the manufacturer, they may look different in appearance, but they all work on the same principle.

Perform the solution to the problem according to this scheme:

  1. Adjust the desired level of pressure by rotating the eccentrics with a hexagon or pliers. In summer, it can be weak, in winter, on the contrary, it can be weak.
  2. If you need to adjust the degree of pressing of the sash to the window frame in the hinge area, then do this using a special screw on the lower hinge.
  3. In the case of swing-out structures, you can also adjust the additional clip by means of the upper loop. To get to the special bolt, it is necessary to open the window, first holding the lock, then set the handle in ventilation mode. Turn the bolt clockwise to press the leaf.

Locked handle with open sash

To prevent damage to the fittings, you can turn the handle only when the sash is tightly closed. In order to avoid accidentally turning it with the sash open, manufacturers equip them with special locks, which are located under the handle at the end. So, to unlock the handle, just press a finger on the lock.

The window has stopped closing and the handle does not turn

If, after you have closed the window, the handle does not turn, then this indicates that the clutch of the lock with the counterpart located on the frame has ceased to work.

This problem is solved in two ways:

  1. The sash can be slightly shifted towards the counterpart of the blocker by means of the adjustment screw.
  2. After loosening the mount a little, insert a thin plate between the frame and the counter element of the lock.

The handle is broken

To change the worn part to a new handle, it is enough to follow these steps:

  1. Pull the trim on the old handle slightly towards you, then unfold it at a right angle.
  2. Then unscrew the screws, remove the broken element, install a new one in its place.
  3. Put the pad back in its original position.

Turning the handle too tight

This happens, usually due to insufficient lubrication. To avoid such a problem, it is necessary at least once a year to lubricate the fittings with machine oil or aerosol grease. These products are sold in the same stores as the tool for adjusting plastic windows.

It should be noted that lubrication and control of the technical condition of window structures is recommended to be carried out annually, even in the absence of the problems listed above.
