Preparatory work

Before you buy the right fabric, you need to determine its consumption, as well as quality and individual properties.

First of all, you need to arm yourself with a tape measure or a centimeter tape, take measurements and write down:

  • The length of the cornice - it will determine the width of the product.
  • The height of the future product - here you need to measure the distance from the hook to the floor.

Important! If you are going to sew only one curtain, then its width should be calculated as follows: the width of the cornice is multiplied by 1.5. For two products, this width must be divided by 2. In the same way, the sizes of frills or lambrequins are determined.

It is better to choose a fabric for sleeping curtains, which has a dense texture, so that it protects you from prying eyes, bright sunlight. Dense curtains should give you a feeling of some peace and comfort.

What should be taken into account when choosing a fabric according to its pattern and color? The following tips will help you:

  1. Future curtains should stand out, and not at all merge with the interior.
  2. Curtains made of velvet, brocade, linen or cotton will look advantageous.
  3. The color of the fabric and its pattern must be selected for the color background of the room.
  4. Designers believe that the best solution is to use the same material for both curtains and bedspreads with decorative pillows.

Important! In a room decorated in pastel colors and decorated with calm drawings, bright curtains will look advantageous in moderation. And in a room with a fairly rich decor, monophonic do-it-yourself curtains for the bedroom, chosen by color, will look great.

Classic curtain lengths

An important step in sewing curtains is to determine their length. Experts recommend four options for curtain lengths:

  • To the windowsill - most often this option is used for the bathroom or kitchen.
  • The classic length is considered to be 1 cm from the floor. Such curtains create the effect of a high ceiling, however, this option is not recommended if your floor is not even.
  • The distance to the floor is 5-6 cm. This option is the most practical, since the curtains in this case will not only not get dirty during cleaning, but also visually reduce the height of the room.

Important! This option cannot be used if the height of your ceiling is less than 2.5 m.

  • The length that allows the lower part of the curtains to fall to the floor plane - for this it is necessary to add 15-20 cm to the ceiling height. These curtains look great in the bedroom, creating at the same time an atmosphere of some sophistication, as well as luxury, comfort and coziness. The only negative - they quickly get dirty, collecting small garbage on themselves.

Sewing the simplest curtains

A small instruction for the manufacture of the most common sliding curtains will help the housewives to sew the curtains into the bedroom themselves, testing their skills and abilities in sewing.

So, let's move on to the main algorithm:

  • First you need to decide what length and width your canvas will have. A 10-15-centimeter stock of width and a 30-centimeter stock will be a kind of guarantor of the integrity and safety of the material if you make a mistake in the manufacturing process.

Important! To draw and cut all large details is much more convenient on the floor, using chalk or a sharp bar of soap. It is best to pre-iron the material, so on a flat surface it will be easier for you to verify the pattern. In addition, this way you will get a lower likelihood of getting all kinds of errors during the cutting process.

  • To process side seams, the width of which can be 1.5-3 cm. The thread in the sewing machine should be tucked in the tone of the selected material.

Important! If you have little experience using the sewing machine, it is best to sweep a certain seam first, then stab it with pins or iron, and only then build it up.

  • Hem the bottom of the future curtains for the bedroom with your own hands: wrap 5 cm, iron, then another 5 cm and iron again. Pin the bottom and stitch the seam.
  • Treat the top with a curtain tape.
  • Sew a grip for the curtains. Cut a strip from the same material, the length of which will be equal to the width of the curtain, and the width will be 15-20 cm, grind the seams. Attach the grip to the wall using Velcro or hook.
  • Go to hanging the curtains. In the curtain tape there are special places designed for hooks-fasteners that are inserted into the grooves-grooves of the cornice.
  • To steal seams and folds - this step will be the final one.

Making Roman Curtains

For further sewing Roman curtains with your own hands for the bedroom, measure the width of the window opening, which will be the width of the future curtain. 5 cm should be added to the resulting number. The length should be determined by measuring the height of the window and adding 12 cm. On the ironed fabric fabric from the inside, mark the lines for the folds and the lines along which the folds and the sewing points of the fastening rings will be located.

Let's move on to the main algorithm:

  • Hem the side edges.
  • Fill the finishing tape on the bottom of the timber.
  • Scrap the fabric over the top edge of the curtain, sew on the finishing tape.
  • To iron the lower edge of the cut of the curtain, stitch to it a double winding with a width of 5 cm.
  • Sew the finishing border along the lines of the folds - the rails on which the rings are sewn will be fixed on it in the future. Attach the rings to the beam on top.
  • You can attach the cord fastener to the window frame. Other shoelaces need to be threaded along the rings to the bottom of the beam.

Important! All shoelaces must go to the same side.

  • Pull the shoelaces of the curtains with your own hands for the bedroom and fix them in this position, using braid for this - this is necessary so that the folds are evenly distributed.
  • Attach a wooden block to the frame, remove the ribbons, straighten the curtain, affecting all the laces.
  • Thread the cords through the handle used to lift the curtains, tie a knot at a distance of 0.5 m. Cut the ends of the laces just below the knot. Fasten the cord fastener to the window frame, wrap it with a cord to secure the curtain.
