Building patterns

Before you sew the covers on the chairs with your own hands, you need to make a pattern of the future product. There is a certain algorithm in constructing a pattern:

Step 1

At this stage, taking measurements from the chair.It is important to consider all the design features, as it is extremely rare that it is perfectly rectangular in shape. It is necessary to determine to what level the skirt of the cover will reach, whether it will completely cover the legs.

We need to make the following measurements:

  • measure all seat dimensions, its depth and width;
  • if the seat has a non-standard shape, it is best to circle its dimensions with graph paper or paper;
  • measure the height, width and thickness of the back, or circle its dimensions;
  • measure the height of the skirt and the distance between the legs.

Step 2

After taking the measurements, we make a drawing of all the necessary details on paper. At this stage, trial patterns are drawn on newspaper or large format paper. It is necessary to do a full cut of all the details as we would do on the fabric. This is necessary for a trial fitting.

Step 3

Armed with ordinary or masking tape and all the details of the pattern, we do the fitting. We glue all parts at the place of future seams with tape. We get the so-called layout of the future product. Visually evaluate all the flaws and shortcomings in the process of constructing patterns. We make adjustments to the drawings.

Taking into account all the changes, we make the final drawing, which will serve as a pattern for future fabric cutting.

As you can see, the process is rather laborious, but if you need to sew several covers for a whole set of chairs, you will not ruin the fabric, thereby saving money.

Important! On average, 1.5-2 meters of fabric is required per case.

We transform the nursery

Children are incredibly creative personalities. What will not tell highchairs. This can be plasticine, paints, felt-tip pens, pens, pencils, all kinds of masses for modeling. Sometimes on children's chairs there are prints of dirty hands stained with chocolate and various foods. Compote, milk and all kinds of drinks are spilled on them. Therefore, the cover on the chair in the children's room carries an important mission to protect this furniture from all kinds of pollution.

Important! It is most practical for a children's room to sew a separate cover so that only the soiled part can be washed separately.

In order to make a cover on a highchair with your own hands, you can use the algorithm for constructing the previously described pattern. However, this alone will not be enough, because children love to surround themselves with bright colors and their favorite characters. In this situation, in addition to the cover, you can make a fun application.

Important! To make the applique, you can take bright pieces of fabric, for example, felt, and from them sew or cut your favorite character for your baby. Next - use Velcro to attach the applique to the back of the chair. This will be a very practical solution, since before washing you just unplug the applique and will not have to wash it.

You can also sew a separate cover, where the seat of the chair will be covered with a universal, durable, soft, non-marking fabric, and sew the back curly, in the form of the head of a beloved animal. Such chairs will surely please your child, bring a cheerful mood, bright colors and comfort to the nursery. This is a great way to make little bullies sit a little bit in place, do creative work, because what kind of kid refuses to sit in such a chair.
